Mask Bureau (CZ) - Destination

Destination is  Japanese-inspired performance exploring the concept of ikigai, intertwining iki (生き life; to live) and kai (甲斐 effect, result) into a "reason for being."

The centerpiece and main authentic component of this performance is calligraphy, using Japanese kanji on a large canvas as the primary scenic element. This aims to bring calmness, attention, and possibly even a small meditative space into the act. The performance includes the use of martial arts equipment such as katana, fans, and staff, as well as adapted equipment from the field of flow arts and handmade tools for working with coal or flags. Various types of materials enrich the visual experience—flammable natural materials such as coal, lycopodium, or iron dust—connecting all the tools at our disposal into an internal experience for both the spectators and the performers. The result is not just a performance; it is a way to understand the movement that connects the performers to each other, to the place of the performance, and to the people who share these emotions.
